AGYNESS DEYN has been chosen to star in a film adaptation of legendary Scottish novel Sunset Song, directed by celebrated British filmmaker Terence Davies.
The Vogue cover girl will star alongside War Horse star Peter Mullan in the film, adapted from the 1932 novel by Lewis Grassic Gibbon. Deyn, who received critical acclaim for her part in The Leisure Society in London’s West End earlier this year, will play the film’s female protagonist Chris Guthrie – the resilient heroine of the piece.
“When I read the script I fell completely in love with the character and the story, I’m so honoured and excited to be working with Terence, he’s such an incredible director,” Deyn said. “I can’t wait to get started and just hope that I can do Chris Guthrie justice!”
Set in the early 19th Century in a poverty-stricken rural community in the north-east of Scotland, Sunset Song charts the struggle of Deyn’s character Chris to hold her family – and its floundering farm – together amid personal pressures and the social and economic changes imposed by industrialisation and the looming Great War.
Filming is planned to begin later this year.
